Earth Form IV Kiln formed glass 2004 Height 10 cms Kiln Formed Glass Previous Fellow I have a background in making small sculptures in ceramics but have been exploring kiln formed glass for the last two years, participating in professional training courses to acquire the necessary skills. I have several presiding influences that weave in and out of my work. I love the rich embellishment and story present in medieval art. I have an abiding interest in mythology and archetypes, which describe for me the human condition and life's journey. From time to time, images derived from mythology and archetypes work on my mind and imagination and to-date have become clay pieces of work. Separately, over the last two years, my work in glass has been inspired by my love for landforms. I feel moved by the nature of our planet's relentless processes; unimaginable transformations in scale and time contrasted with such fragility in the face of human life. I seek to express something about the paradox of strength and fragility in my work. |
