About Chiltern Web Gazette

The Gazette has been formed to offer a Web presence to individuals, organisations and businesses in the Chiltern Hills area. Run from within the area it aims to give a personal service to those who are new to the World Wide Web as a means of bringing their activities to a wider audience.

Your own page on the Web

You will have seen home pages from clubs, schools and businesses who all wish to make their activities known more widely than is possible with articles in the local newspaper.

You can obviously purchase web space and set up your own site such as Chiltern Web Gazette but that takes time and possibly more money than you wish to commit. Or you can commission a Web Authoring service to compile the pages for you.

At Python Publishing we will create and include your pages in Chiltern Web Gazette as well as research and provide links to sites with similar interests to your own. As we are aiming to provide a local service for the smaller Web user you will be surprised at how low our costs can be.

Clubs, Schools and Societies

A newspaper article or advertisement for new members will not last very long nor will it be able to give much information but a Web document could be like a small magazine all devoted to your activity.

Schools are now putting their prospectuses on the Web together with samples of their students' work. There are dedicated "School" sites but they usually cater for educational matters and perhaps do not get the wide readership you would aim to reach. Typically a school will have the equipment and expertise to set up their own Web site but have the staff the time to make a good job of it? This is the big growth area in Web use. Now is the time to get a Web presence. Even if you are unsure of how to interpret your activities into a form to make a good Web document you should start now so that you will be ahead of your competitors. Now that domestic hardware for easy Web access via the television screen is in the High Street the early user will have the advantage. We have seen an explosion of Web use in the home with access being as simple as using a telephone and video recorder.

Local Writers, Club Secretaries

Python Publishing will retain the right to choose which scripts to publish and may edit them to fit the current issue of Chiltern Web Gazette. Scripts may be submitted by e-mail or typescript and the edited version will be sent to you for confirmation of the content prior to publication. You may include pictures as MIME encoded gif attachments to the e-mail message. Arrangement can be made should a script be chosen for publication but which requires photographs or paintings to be scanned. No other correspondence can be entered into.

You will retain copyright of your work and at any time can have it removed from the Chiltern Web Gazette by sending a request to our mailbox.

Background to the production of Chiltern Web Gazette

Python Publishing uses a Castle Iyonix with 512 Mb RAM and HTML Edit to create its Web pages. The use of this equipment is partly historical in that I have used Acorn/RISCOS machines for many years now and it is partly due to speed of use, stability of the platform and operating system. In my support business I need to use Wintel systems and am always glad to return to RISCOS which is virtually crash free, upgrading is easy and the WIMP interface is intuitive.
